Is Zaishen pronouced Zaayaa-shen or Zaye-shen? I always pronouced is Zaye-shen...

I do believe that Zaishen would be pronounced as follows:

Ss-I-sheN.

Also, for Aatxe, I can see that word being different ways.

I think by traditional pronunciation (from my background with linguistics from semi frequent european travels) would be:

AAh-Ch-ee
-with a strong focus on the CH, and the double 'ee' to be attempted to be spoken with the tongue in position like an english 'u', but as an 'ee'.

For the sake of simplicity though, I say it in a more Germanic manner:
"aah-tex-ah"

The one that always bothered me was Vabbi.

Everyone pronounces it "Vah-bee"

It is actually "Vu-beh" because it isn't african in origination, but rather Indian (specifically coming from the Dhivehi language)

Zay-shen.

I honestly don't know why people have problems with Chinese words. Maybe Slavians (of the Slavic origin - Polish, Russian and so on) with English basics can say "Ninja Gaiden" or "Zaishen" or even "Hitsugaya" without problems... It's weird, really.

i say zoon-lie, but i suppose it could be zun-lay, zun-lie, zun-lee, etc.

Zun-lay. Simple. It's not Mandarin, it's simply Chinese.

I might agree with Zun-lie, it sounds a bit better than Zun-lay, but that's because of how flawed English is when you want to describe how to say words from other languages. There are few Polish, Spanish or Chinese words you can't correctly write using English...

It's either Spanish or Slavic pronounciation... Spanish would be yeah, Pretzel with Q, so it's "Qetzel" with silent second E. Or Slavic would be "Que-tzyl". See, you don't have the correct sounds in English to say it correctly...

Closest translation into English syllables I can get is ... shuun-lie. Maybe shwin-lie.

Zaishen for me is two syllables, with the 'i' pronounced like the pronoun.

That's why I say English is a poor language to pronounce foreign words.

You don't have a hard Z Slavic and Asian languages have. The closest "zun" would be the Z from "zebra". Not zee-bra, but zeh-bra's Z.

Because you are unused to foreign sounds. I had at first problems with Spanish l doble, because while we do have sounds for it, we have 3 of them and we have to "combine" them, to make one that is correct. It's something between our "ź", "dź" and "j". Don't worry, you don't have to learn this stuff. It's just to point out that many languages have their own strange ways of talking...

Ehm.. There is no just "simply Chinese." Chinese is divided into Mandarin and Cantonese dialects.

There is no z sound. Z is Sh. Like I said before, it would be Shuun-lie, if you want to get literal, if it's even meant to be Mandarin.

I don't know anything about Cantonese, so I can't say anything about what the pronunciation would be with that dialect... Mandarin is the more popular, "ni hao" and etc..

I assume it's Mandarin, since there is a Chinese author named Xunlai Yuan, which also goes by Paul? So, I'm guessing Xunlai may also mean Paul... Dunno if that's some inside joke at Anet or what. Paul Agent?

I guess that's the closest. I mean, Shun-lie would be the best, if you insist on not using the Z.

Maybe I got mistaken it with Japanese, they do have that sound.

Isn't Zaishen more zhai-shen and Xunlai just Zun-Lai....

'Zh' sorta making the /ch/ sound with an almost /j/ opening.
